Just because it’s cold, doesn’t mean the fun has to stop!
No matter your sport; small steps in proper foot care can make a big difference in your performance and recovery! Here are some expert tips from our podiatrists to help keep you off the sidelines this season.
Dry your shoes between games
Wet boots make the perfect environment for bacteria, blisters and fungal infections. Make sure your shoes are completely dry before slipping them back on.
Trim your nails straight across
This helps avoid painful ingrown toenails, which are especially common when your toes are under pressure from tight-fitting sports boots.
Stretch and strengthen your calves
Tight calves can increase stress on your heels and arches, leading to conditions like plantar fasciitis or achilles pain. Keep your lower legs loose to take pressure off your feet.
Check for hot spots or rubbing early
Don’t ignore hot spots or early blisters; they can quickly turn into painful injuries. Use padding or change your footwear if needed.
Recovery is non-negotiable
Ease into the season, build intensity gradually, and listen to your body. Recovery is where the real gains happen – focus on good sleep, quality nutrition, and hydration between sessions and games.
